Hurtigruten, the Norwegian expedition cruise line, has announced it is launching a series of sailings from the UK this September.

The four sailings will all be short break expedition cruises around the British Isles, taking place on the line’s MS Roald Amundsen – the world’s first hybrid expedition cruise ship

When it sets sail in September, MS Roald Amundsen will be the first expedition cruise ship to depart from a UK port since the country went into coronavirus lockdown in March.

Appealing to Brits all around the country, the four sailings will depart from Portsmouth (2 September), Liverpool (7 and 17 September) and Glasgow (12 September).

The expeditions will last six days each and sail around some of the UK’s most beautiful mainland ports and islands.

The Isles of Scilly, Fowey, Rathlin Island, Fort William, Oban, Fishguard and Waterford are all on the schedule for the sailings.

On the ship will be a dedicated expedition team including experienced Ornithologists, leading excursions such as a beach clean up and visiting the world-famous Tresco Abbey Garden.

Sailings from Portsmouth and Liverpool on 17 September will head south, while Liverpool on 7 September and sailings from Glasgow will head north to the Scottish Highlands.

In keeping with the current climate, the ship will operate at a reduced maximum capacity of 350 guests, approximately 65% of total capacity.

Prices for the mini-cruises start at £999 per person and include all meals with house alcoholic beverages, tea and coffee, wi-fi, a reusable water bottle and access to the expedition team leading a host of complimentary excursions.

Hurtigruten is also operating longer sailings around the UK from as early as 2 September 2020. Running from 11 to 21 days, the port-intensive sailings will scour the length of the British Isles, showing off the abundance of natural beauty it has to offer.

Excursions induce visit Rathlin Islands, Northern Ireland’s largest seabird colony, and visiting whisky distilleries in the Scottish Highlands. Prices for the longer sailings start at £1,999 per person.
